You think about the idiotic slavery-type relationship he and Buffy were in during much of Season 6 of the show: that's remarkably dumb of both of them; and that's actually backed up by a novel *by* R. Giles of all people in his comments on the relationship; he was NOT pleased that his "stepdaughter" had entered into *that insanity* of a relationship, at all; he *had to know* just what would come of it, and that's NOTHING GOOD!

And addendum: it is not only crime, but all manner of very fake marriages, like cohabitation and/or same-sex "marriage" as well as adultery and "open marriages" really are one of its appeals to people- they're mere recruiting ploys to a faction fully united to *abuse*, specifically of other, and not even caring at all about what's done to oneself; now someone both chaste and sadistic really is turned *off* to all manner of marital sins and crimes against one's family; we're fully disgusted by that idiocy!

What're vampires in that story's universe? they're terrorist slave-soldiers of the First (Satan most likely), used by it to sow problems and grief, but really beyond the pain: utterly meaningless; and yes, "Count Iblis" really *does* mean to destroy them, but only in the course of events. Best operating lens for the character of Lucifer: that of a mafia don; head of organized crime, but this thing *founded* crime as a lifestyle- go figure! So this evil seraphim is *way* above in the hierarchy of villains all of the criminals in all manner of stories; they're merely "useful idiots" to it, nothing but.

*This guy's situation* is *exactly* what it is like to be sociopathic/psychopathic; you scare yourself *way* more than you do others, and you really frighten them- it is akin to having a monster *within* you that you cannot ever escape from, and that you have got to control, day in, day out, come what may, and never ever fail, or you die in the penal battalions that you're condemned to by your own ineptitude and foolishness- your deepest terror is not that you're going to be subjected to abuse, it is that you'll abuse others; and in the *most* sadistic way imaginable; and what curded him? It was his girlfriend, and the reaction he *knew* she'd have if he let slip *once* with her kid sister and let himself abuse her!

His reaction when he figures out he's basically a slave-soldier of the devil itself *is* interesting; he puts all manner of limitations on himself, even specifically *insisting* on being chained up at night; and rebuking his girlfriend on her more *dumb* idea of letting the inner monster out to play; he lets slip to her that that's *precisely* what he's so scared of: it would kill all of her friends before her very eyes, long before she or they could respond- and he suspects that's Lucifer's whole goal with its suggestions to him every-so-often; for some reason it wants him to attack her houseguests who're basically something of adopted stepsisters of hers!

I was very much in love with Angel as a teenager, but as an adult, I respect Spike more. When Liam became a vampire and when Angel lost his soul, not a single ounce of empathy or love was carried over into Angelus. Angelus was a completely different person, which is typical for vampires, but there was something about Spike that even the demonic entity that was his vampire self couldn't squash his ability to love or feel empathy. It didn't stop him from feeling empathy for Dawn and Buffy when they lost their mother. It didn't stop him from grieving Joyce. He still had a heart left that could be broken. Angelus would have never willingly fought to restore his own soul, but Spike did. Spike restored his own soul because he didn't want to hurt his soulless self to hurt Buffy again.

This was an Incredible Masterpiece for Spike My All Time Favorite Antagonist’s and My Second Favorite Character In The Buffyverse. Hey WeCanTry can you please make a tribute for The Master The Original Antagonist’s in The Buffyverse?
